Summer Heights High

Postby Glinda on Sat Dec 13, 2008 12:25 pm

SSH is an Australian 'mockumentary' written by (imo) the surpremely funny and talented Chris Lilley, who also plays the three principle characters. It's set in a suburban high school and is extremely close to the bone but gets away with it as it's very cleverly observed. I can't help but find it hilarious. My fave is Mr. G  . I think its being repeated on BBC3 at the moment, has anyone else seen it?
It's not an island. It's a place where miracles happen.

I'm watching them as they come up on BBC3...I agree this is hilarious!
I love the scenes between Jonah and his dad (that picture he drew), and J'aime makes me cringe....but Mr G and his Annabel musical...brilliant! Excellent characters.
Chris Lilley is indeed a genius, I can't wait to see the next episode....

Summer Height's High is awesome. Jonah and Mr. G are hilarious. I have bought the DVD and watched it all a couple of times.

This programme is so funny! I love it! It makes me cringe loads especially with the Annabel musical songs!

If you're not Australian and you like Chris Lilley you may want to check out his first show "We Can be Heroes". Chris Lilley was a teacher (music I believe) so his observations of school life of Australians in public schools is acutely observed. Personally I don't find it funny for this very reason, it is so acutely observed (and everyone else in it is not a trained actor) and so real that I don't find myself laughing, but am in awe of his ability to impersonate and make us believe he really is a 16 year old private school scrag or a misunderstood bully like Jonah.

HURLEY: Dude, that beer's been sitting there since before Rocky III, maybe even II. It's probably poison by now.
SAWYER: Skeletor seems to like it. Bottoms up.
HURLEY: That's not cool, dude. That guy had a mom, a family, and friends. Oh, and a name. It's Roger Workman.
SAWYER: It's Work Man, you blockhead. That's his job. He was a DHARMA janitor.
HURLEY: Yeah, well you should still respect the dead.

Hahaha I love this show.

Mr. G is hilarious.

I love how they use the dog in the show he pretty much highjacks at the end.
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
