Shutter Island

This film's release is probably Scorsese's most controversial film since Last Temptation, but for completely seperate reasons. Generally, critics think it's in the 2/5 or 3/5 range, and average, with some thinking its total crap, others finding it to be his best, or close to his best, film. Personally, I've spoken to many fellow students about this, and again, seems to either of left ether a bad taste in their mouth, or they were ecstatic about it.

So, for those who've seen it, what do you think?

Oh, and put any plot reveals found in the third act in spoilers tags for those yet to see it please :)

I guess I'm in the second category. I'd go with five stars our of five.

Still haven't seen the film. But I read the book. I'd give the book 2 out of 5 stars. Fun characters. Good pace. Predictable and less suspensful than I wanted it to be.

I liked the first hour very much, just to end up being upset by the finale... It had this strange and total twist that led to another kind of story, and I didn't like it. I loved the oniric start, the mix between reality and dreams... but in the end I was slightly upset. I'd give it 2,5/5, but it's just my personal, humble opinion :)

I loved it! Really thought provoking, love a good psychological thriller.

And I love how at the end...
Spoiler (Click to reveal/hide)
when it shows the lighthouse, there is still a lingering thought that Leo's adventure was actually real and they are performing these experiments

Exactly... like..
Spoiler (Click to reveal/hide)
how he seems to be 100% crazy, and indeed he may of been, but I'm not sure that some of his suspicions were entirely off-base with that final shot of the lighthouse.

it's my favorite film of the year thus far, which isn't saying much, but still.

Leo's performance was heart wrenching.

I read the book a few years ago and if you watch the film knowing how its going to end you can see all these hints that
Spoiler (Click to reveal/hide)
he is crazy because of the things his wife did and he did to his wife.
The book is less ambiguous than the film about that. Although I thought it was even pretty clear in the film too, but thats probably because I already read the book.
