The Hangover Part II star Jamie Chung has been cast in a recurring role for the ABC fantasy drama's second season, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Her role? The Chinese warrior Mulan.
Disney adapted Mulan's story into a big-screen animated musical in 1998 with ER alum Ming-Na voicing the title character. In the film, Mulan secretly fights in the army in her father's place to save him from death.
The legend of Mulan began in an ancient Chinese poem titled "The Ballad of Mulan."
Chung recently starred in Sucker Punch, Eden and will appear in Knife Fight, 7500 and The Man With the Iron Fists.
Once Upon a Time will appear at Comic-Con on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m. with exec producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and cast members Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas, Lana Parilla, Meghan Ory and Emilie de Ravin.

Thanks DharmaLager for starting this thread! I am very happy about both those casting calls. More strong women FTW!

Also Congrats to Meghan Ory ("Red" Riding Hood/Ruby) and Emilie de Raven (Belle/?) to series regulars.

One thing I wanted to talk about was a spoiler given from TV Guide a little while ago regarding Belle...Actually Jane Epenson gave the initial interview, but it was removed and regiven by the other writers/producers. In any case, they made a point to say that Belle's return is "a wrinkle in Rumple's plan"...

The reason why I find this curious is that Jefferson seemed to release Belle and send her to Mr. Gold, with the assumption that Belle telling Gold, "Regina locked me up.", would somehow hurt Regina, since she didn't help Jefferson get his daughter Grace back....But even when Gold sees Belle, his first response is happy loving amazement, but then you see he is taken aback...

The writers have seemed to have taken Disney's image of Belle of Beauty and the Beast. Her looks, clothes, and even the chip reference all point to Disney's version as inspration to their own. The lyrics to one of the songs, "Bonjour" may point out Belle's specialness to the series, perhaps in a more physical or magical way...

Some of the lyrics from "Bonjour!"

There goes the baker with his tray like always.
The same old bread and rolls to sell.
Every morning just the same since the morning that we came,
To this poor provential town.

[Baker]
Good Morning Belle!

[Belle]
G'morning Misure!

[Baker]
Where you off to?

[Belle]
The book shop...
I just finished the most wonderful story,
About a beanstalk and an ogor and an...

[Baker]
That's nice. Marie! The bagettes! Maria!

[Group of Women]
Look there she goes that girl is strange no question.
She's can distracted can't you tell?

Look there she goes that girl is so peculiar. I wonder if she's feeling well.

[Group Of Women]
With a dreamy far off look.

[Group Of Men]
And her nose stuck in a book.

[Villigers]
What a puzzle to the rest of us, is Belle.

'Cause she really is a funny girl
A beauty but a funny girl
She really is a funny girl
That Belle!

It's unclear how much Jefferson knows about Belle, but I think because of the way the finale plays out and because de Ravin has become a series regular, all points to a much deeper story about whom Belle is and why she could be so deathly or dangerous to both Regina and Mr. Gold. In Disney's version, Belle is the Inventor's daughter, but when we meet Belle in Once, she seems to be royalty...unless all the towns people were hiding in another's (Guston's?) nobles castle to escape 'the Ogre Wars'....but the idea/line of, "Her noise stuck in a book" might be an indication in Once of 'a spell book'..or like William Bell in Fringe, Belle might be an advent reader: a person of GREAT knowledge of universal truth(s) [magic]...

---------------------
And now a Fringe and Once related cross over scene to get us through the hiatus! ;)

In an alternate universe where William Bell has recently passed on, Walter Bishop and Nina Sharp take a little trip down memory lane to commemorate whom William Bell really was...

After several hours of searching and going through personal belongings at Massive Dynamic, three Observers (September, December, and July) appear.,,

December: We have what you seek. (Holds up a VHS Tape)

September: This is what he wanted to be, but couldn't.

September takes tape from December and holds it out to Walter. Walter takes the tape which reads, "Once Upon A Time Audition Tape")

December: The truth will come out. It always does. (they disappear)

Nina: Walter, what do you think this means?!

Walter: It's Belly's road not taken! -We must watch it as soon as possible!

Nina: But we don't have a VHS player here, Walter!

Walter: I do, -back at the lab!

In the small quiet dark room in Walter's lab Nina and Walter have prepared the the TV and VCR. Walter puts the tape in and retreats to a pair of beani chairs...

The film begins to play. A stage...with dreadful cartoon-looking cut outs of a small French town. Disney's Beauty and the Beast Audio track begins to play....

There goes the baker with his tray like always. The same old bread and rolls to sell.
Every morning just the same since the morning that we came,
To this poor provincial town.

[Baker]
Good Morning Belle!

William Bell appears in wig and a blue dress. He begins to sing!

William Bell: G'morning Monsieur!...*The book shop*...I just finished the most wonderful story, About a beanstalk and an ogre and an..

Nina gives face palm, while Walter gets the just of song, stands up, becomes animate, raises his arms to conduct in crescendo, and chimes right in! ...

Walter: She really is a funny girl, a beauty, but a funny girl. She really is a funny girl! That BELL!!!!!!!!!!!
