53rd Eurovision Song Contest!

Postby JamesW on Wed May 21, 2008 3:10 pm

So, who will be watching on Saturday?

Eurovision is where all the countries in Europe submit a singing act and they all perform then you vote for your favourite. As long as they sing they can dance, have other performers etc.

It's fairly tacky, but so great.

8pm GMT, or if you are outside of Europe, you can stream it from http://www.eurovision.tv live, or watch it back up to a week after :)

I used to enjoy it. The cheesy-ness of it all. The tacky costumes. The terrible hosts. Etc. But these days it is far too political to enjoy. Neighbouring countries vote for one another, year after year, and the whole war in iraq thing has had a huge impact on voting. It is no longer about the music or the talent, which is a shame.

Regardless, I'll probably watch parts of it with a beer at hand.

Thats very true. It would be better if the countries kept their acts top-secret, and you weren't told what country was performing next etc. Sure things would slip out, but people would only know when they recognise the people are from their country onscreen or something.

I love to watch for Terry Wogan's commentary. Makes me LOL. :)
Having a group of friends round to watch and eat tacky party food (Party Ring biscuits, cheese/pineapple cocktail straws, etc). Should be good :D

tbh eurovision is just lame you can pretty much whos gonna get how many points. All their neighbours vote for each other and it ends up with the country with the most neighbour countries winning.

Shannon: Light sticks? What the hell is that suppo--
Sawyer: Light. Comma. Sticks. As in those legs of yours

I love the Eurovision Song Contest. The entries are shocking, as are the VTs of the host nations attractions but Terry Wogan's commentary is priceless.

I was gutted, I ended up having to go out and never saw it. I got in just in time to see Russia win.

Timbaland did produce Russia's entry though, but from what I saw of it, I wasn't impressed.

No wonder the UK was last, the song was shocking.

Latvia should've won! Go pirates lmao!

And how scary was that man who spoke about the countries with pink hair :? lol!

It was so funny how the Russians thought they'd won because they were good- haha! What a joke!

Its blatant bullying and I don't see why we bother.

The thing with the spanish song is that I think that nobody understood the whole idea of the song. It is hilarious, it's a parody of reggaeton, politics on spain and so on. Here in spain is a blast like it once was the Macarena.
