Episode 5.16 - An Honest Mistake - Spoiler Discussion

Postby Taylijane on Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:17 am

Episode Title: Unknown
Airdate: Unknown
Episode Summary: Unknown

Sides for episode 5.16 are out and it's just for one character (thanks to Crys from TWoP).

Mr. Terzian (50's)- He's awake after having surgery. Dr. Smith is there and Dr. Walters is examining his leg. Dr. Walters says they'll get him an X-ray and he'll probably need a cast but he should be up on his feet in a few weeks. Mr. Terzian says he doesn't know what he was thinking because he knew the wound wasn't healing as fast he hoped. Dr. Smith explains that sometimes that happens when they don't do the surgery laparoscopically but with the technique they used they were able to move around and see more. Mr. Terzian doesn't doubt that they did the right thing. Dr. Smith says they're going to treat the infection with antibiotics.

Next scene is in Mr. Terzian's room and Dr. Vernon is talking to him while Dr. Smith stands off to the side. Dr. Vernon explains that the scans showed a complication from the surgery (a lacerated bile duct and vessel) and he'll need another surgery to it. Mr. T is overjoyed that that's the only thing wrong with him because he thought he was dying when he was told the Head of General Surgery was coming to talk to him. Dr. Vernon says he just wanted Mr. T to know he's within his right to request a new surgeon. Mr. T asks if Dr. Smith isn't available and Dr. Vernon says she is. He says Dr. Smith saw him through his first round of appointments and surgery, that she saved his life so he chooses her.

Dr Vernon must be Richard (Chief of Surgery). Maybe Callie (ortho) is involved. It seems a strange case - he has a fractured leg that requires as cast but he has also had recent keyhole surgery for abdominal problem e.g. gall bladder. I wonder, if he had the operation on this gall bladder, was discharged and became unwell due to an post-op infection, had a fall and then was readmitted with a broken leg as well as his post-op complications? Bailey would most probably be the doctor Dr Vernon (the Chief) is talking about.

It's too bad that they change the name of the characters so no one knows what is going to happen in the episode. It's not much info to go off of yet. Is 5-16 around when the cross-over happens?

hbshopgirl, I think the PrP cross-over is 5.15. There are no sides for that episode. But we will have Addison and her brother coming. There are cases from 5.14 that still continuing cases, plus this may be the end of the hallucinating aneurysm. :) Not sure if Derek and Richard to PrP will be a part of GA or only PrP. I think only PrP, so it will not be seen as a GA episode.

Thank-you very much, Humbugged. :)

Ausiello says:
Someone's been hiding out at Seattle Grace all these years, and trust me when I say you are never going to believe who it is.

Mommie Dearest -- Faye Dunaway!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the Oscar winner (for Network), who hasn't taken a small-screen gig since a 2006 episode of CSI, has signed on for at least one episode of Grey's Anatomy to air in February. She'll play a renowned doc at the hospital who crosses paths with the Chief, Cristina and Owen.

So far there are only sides for the patient. But, then she may have been cast directly and not from sides. However, I thought that Richard was the Head of Surgery - all surgery - general, neuro, cardiac, etc. But, she could be the surgeon who stuffed up the operation. You can see how that would mean she would cross paths with Richard and maybe Cristina but how would this bring her in contact with Owen? Where she may be involved is with Owen's ex-fiance. The ex-fiance's father has cancer that he has been hiding from his daughter. She may be the father's doctor and be a specialist in cancer treatment. The ex-fiance arrives in 5.14, I think, and is there for a multi-episode arc. They could bring in a cancer expert to see the father - although in the sides - his prognosis was not good.

hbshopgirl, Don't be confused. :)
I am only speculating that she is a cancer specialist because Faye Dunnaway's character is there at the same time as Owen's ex-fiance appears and we know from the sides that he has inoperable cancer. The sides for casting Owen's ex, state that she must be available for multiple episodes and may be required to return. Dunnaway is only, so far as Ausiello says, in one episode as a guest star.

That what happens when you don't read the casting sides, you get confused.
Since the sides have fake names, there not that interesting to read.
What you said sounds plausible. Taylijane, you come up with really good insight.

Thanks Humbugged. :) I did not realise that Mark, Derek, etc were heads of their specialty. I just thought they were attendings and specialists in their field. I did not realise they had other attendings answering to them only the residents and interns.

This may be ageist, but Faye Dunaway is 68 years old (well, she will be in a couple of days). I'm hoping she's not a surgeon. Any other kind of doctor, no big deal, but 68 is a little old to be operating. I actually thought she was older! She looked 70 to me a few of years ago when she was on CSI.

I thought the same thing! But in Shondaland she will be written as younger. even though she doesn't look it at all.
When I read that spoiler, I was a little disappointed...she may turn out to be interesting, but I am not looking forward to her appearance.

The average of retirement for surgeons is around 64/65 so there are a number who will continue to operate after that age. Her plastic surgery endeavours have not improved her looks - she does look ghastly. :O She is only there for one episode and I imagine she has been cast to character - an old "battleaxe". I wonder if she is somehow connected to Sadie? Her grandmother? Mother? Sadie may have been a later-life baby. :hmm:

ETA She could be on the hospital board - this thing of being No12 is bothering Richard for some reason. Maybe she is related to Sadie and is an administrator at SGH?

Thanks Humbugged! :D Doesn't look like Mark is in the least bit interested in Addison. I wonder if she knows about Lexie at this stage? :P
