What did you think of Epi 5.11 - Wish you were here?

Postby Taylijane on Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:00 am

Please tell us what you thought of Episode 5.11 - Wish you were here.

And give it a rating of how good it was. Was it a 0/5 ( :cursing: ) stars or 5/5 () stars? Or somewhere in between?

What did you enjoy? What did you hate? Were the medical cases interesting and have great GA quirkiness? Were there enough Meredith/Derek moments? What about the other couplings? Was there enough porny moments? Was there enough quirky humour?

Let us know what you think, please. :D

I thought tonights eppi was very good  !! Meredith and Derek time was short but we got the beginning of a quicky

Best line of the night for me was: Mark "I'm going to Denver"

By the way, the medical cases were all good!!

Alex was fantastic! with Jackson (the young boy who needs intestines and a liver) and with Izzie. "Tell him I said Hi"
He took care of his mom, who was a loon...but I don't think he fully grasped what Izzie was saying.

Derek' s father was shot :guns: :O over a watch. How sad, no wonder he hates the PDR..look at the the women he killed...and how hard Derek works to save people.

SK is scary :scared:

I thought it strange, that the Chief was still stewing about SGH being ranked 12...wonder where shondaland is going with that :S

Well, I must say this eppi left me wanting more, can't wait til next Thursday! Grade A, I guess that is a 5/5, just wish creepy Denny was gone

Did you all see the sneak peeks I left for 5.12, for some reason they are out early :!:

Overall it was a really good episode I thought.
I really liked the MerDer parts in the beginning with the "quickie" haha that was really cute. And of course the end scene with the end when Derek dances with Meredith and he's like "get your ass up here" lol.
That is really sad about his father though.
I can't wait to meet the mother. looks funny.
Owen and Christina..... I felt like this episode ruined the fresh romantic image I had for them. Christina is so right about him, he only is there for her when she is vulnerable. If you look back at all the moments where he is all wonderful and they kiss or have a heartfelt moment she is always in a bad spirit, something bad happened to her or she is upset. From the beginning when Christina has an icicle in her chest she is his "damsel in distress" just like he said. That sums up everything, damsel in distress. The next moment is 5-05 I think when she is sad because she does not have anyone she sees him as shes walking out. The next is when shes upset about killing the pigs, Owen is there for her. The next is the scene in the on call room after she found out mark was hitting on her. She finds Owen and tells him about her father. Okay that was different I guess. Next is 5-08 the kiss I don't remember any upsetting moments for her in that episode so none there. The next is 5-09 after the fight with Mere and having to save Sadie he is once again there for her outside her apartment telling her she is beautiful. 5-10 the most damsel in distress moment, when she runs out of the gallery and he runs after her and they go into the vent and share a passionate kiss. Now 5-11, like I said when the clip came out, the one where the 4 meet the PDR, Owen doesn't talk to her at all. You can tell she is like why isn't he answering me when I asked what do me have". Then he sees that Mere and her are not friends and gives her coffee and feels bad for her. Then after Christina says hi to him outside the cafeteria he is like "I'm working!" Gosh what is this deal? Lastly he asks her if she wants to get a drink and she comes out and asks him what his deal is and why he only talks to her when she's vulnerable.
So I love this couple and have been rooting for it since 5-01 but come on, how can they be together if he only talks to her when shes upset or something? They are the reason I tune in to Grey's. If someone understands them or has an idea tell me, I'm really curious.
How can they go or at least "attempt to go on a date" after she tells him to go to hell?

I think a 3 1/2 star episode. I would have given it 4 1/2 except for the lack of Meredith and Derek, the inconsistency in characterisations (Meredith and Derek and Cristina) and of course the hallucinating aneurysm!

Loved humanitarian Meredith - professional and able to let the law punish the PDR not the doctors.

Meredith and Derek
The Bookends - placating, carrot dangling torture by the principle masochist. :x Cute scenes to smooth the waters but this carrot is way past dessicated. :bored:
I was so disappointed by Meredith's response to Derek's tortured tale of his dad. And so disappointed in Meredith's reaction (I know the writer's are to blame here  ). What would the "normal" girlfriend say here to this tale? - just sorry - does not cut it - it make Meredith seem so self-absorbed that she cannot see past her own issues - and that is so not Meredith anywhere else other than with Derek and it is the writers' inconsistencies again (sorry to harp on this but it is so irritating :cursing: ) The normal Meredith would have hugged him, cried with him, asked him about it - how he and the family coped. What a missed opportunity to find out more about Derek. But, what :w00t: , the 2 minutes for the Bookends was up!!!!!

Derek
Derek is still very near the edge of severe burnout. I wonder if sr will explore this and dread that she may take this to be another plot device to keep Meredith and Derek from progressing in their relationship, at least for this season.

PDR - well portrayed by ES. He is a true sociopath - no remorse only pleasure in the suffering of his victims. Also pleased Meredith is very aware of this and is not being fooled by him in the slightest - she knows how dangerous he is.

Mere and Cristina
Should Mere take Sadie's advice and say sorry like she really means it and can see the issue from Cristina's POV? Yes, because it would make her the bigger man. will the writers allow Mere to do this? - Probably not - Mere will be more likely portrayed as the lesser man here. (I am wondering if it may be it is Meredith in the SUV outside Cristina's apartment in 4.14, now)

Mere and Sadie
Leave it over, Meredith. Sadie is bad news and make sure she stays away from Lexie. But, thought that the scene was great and it drew Meredith's attention to the issue of the fight with Cristina.
I can see why MG has earned her GG nomination (in In Treatment, great show! BTW) Is MG's contract nearly over?

Cristina and Owen
Blow hot/cold Owen. Its a fine story line and relationship. At least it will keep Cristina too occupied to interfere with Meredith and Derek's relationship.

Owen and Derek
Bonding - it is great for Derek to finally have a male friend at SGH. This should be an interesting relationship and I like them together better than Burke.

  Lexie and Mark

"Sorry, Kid. I'm going to Denver" says it all. He is so smitten and I hope that the writers treat it well.

I wasn't much thrilled about this episode. It was Ok. I will give it a 3
I mean, I think that the best part was when the residents were having lunch together. Kind of remind me those old good years of season 1, 2 and 3, when they hanged out like a real close group of friends.

The Mark/Callie interaction was great, too. I think they should end up together. Bailey's storyline was interesting.

I really, really disliked the death row inmate storyline. Really, REALLY disliked the escenas where he was with de BIG FOUR (Mer, Christina, Derek, Owen). I think they are the 4 less interesting charcaters right now. Christina was a great character, I mean, she is still a great character, but this three-episodes arc with the inmate doesn't look very exciting for her, nor for the other three.

George still doesn't have a decent storyline. I mean, there a lot of good storylines for him. I think the most obvious was making him deal with his authority issues over his last year intern friends. He really needs a storyline, it's not a character like Mark, that could spent almost 2 seasons and a half with no storyline whatsoever. George is one of the original 5, the original 5 that made this show great. They should respect him (the authors and producers) a little more.

Izzie, Denny and Alex storyline was, FINALLY, a little more interesting. It was implied that she was letting Denny go, but in the Episode Descriptions for the next week episode, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is listed again as a recurring character. So I think is still not over.

Anyway, Ok episode, very far from the masterpieces we've seen in the second season, where every episode was a perfect 10. Sad.

Moving my post from the General Spoilers thread over to this one since it was about this episode.

McMorning/ McEvening all

First, sadly my team lost.

I thought it was a pretty good episode. Mostly, I was just glad to see more than a few seconds of MerDer. I'm happy when I see more of Derek and Meredith together and apart. They are just my personal favorites and I love seeing them on screen. Loved the start with the quickie and then the dancing at the end. Derek's so cute.

I think it put a little bit more of a personal angle on Der's attitude when he explained about what happened to his Dad. I was really surprised by how his Dad died. From the people I've known who had family members get hurt or killed in violent crimes I would say that their attitudes towards criminals tend to be a bit more harsh because it is colored by their personal experiences. So, now we know that is part of Der's problem with the PDR. I still don't think it was true to his character that he would let someone just lay there and hurt for the heck of it. Sorry, just not buying that so I'll ignore it as bad writing. How chilling was it when the PDR was describing his crimes. Made the hairs on my arms stand up. I would not put it past sr to have him get loose and threaten Mer or Christina. I think it's awfully hard for her to pass up the HIGH DRAMA when it's in front of her but we'll see.

The Mer/Christina fight doesn't bother me in the least other than that it makes Mer unhappy. I just have never liked the way that Chris treats Mer. It really hacks me off that sr is still trying to play that whole situation off like Mer is in the wrong and I personally don't think she is. She did apologize to Christina and tried to make up and Christina was having none of it. Again, this shows the lack of consistency in the writing of the characters. Mer has been the most compassionate, non-judgemental & accepting friend of the whole group. sr wants to throw that scene in with Sadie like Mer is hardcore when it comes to her friends and forgiving them and that's bull.

I knew Mark wouldn't make it long! It was hilarious when he and Callie were scrubbing in and they said "break" and hit elbows. I really don't like what they've done with Callie's character. When she was first on she was more of a strong, confident woman in her career esp. Now she just seems like a schizo nymphomaniac and it's not very flattering.

I can't go without saying I'm so sick of Denny and he isn't going anywhere for awhile. I like Izzie & Alex a lot but I did think tonight that I missed the George/Izzie friendship. It's like it never existed. How cute was it, though, that Alex made Izzie a cake. That was so sweet.

We all get at least one good wish a year over the candles on our birthday. Some of us throw in more on a eye lash (Alex and Iz in the stairwell), fountains, and lucky stars.....Every now and then one of those wishes comes true. So what then.....Is it as good as we hoped? Do we bask in the warm glow of our happiness or do we just notice that we have a long list of wishes just waiting to be wished.

Ending VO

We don't wish for the easy stuff. We wish for BIG things. Things that are ambitious and out of our reach. We wish because we need help and we are scared and we know we may be asking for too much........We still wish because sometimes they come true.

I think maybe they are trying to show the inconsistency of someone experiencing PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). It seems that Owen can be lost in his own world or have his walls up and is only able to truly respond when Chris is vulnerable. When in the field in Iraq he would have been in that mode all the time. Constantly responding to others needs. We saw that he was drawn to Chris the first time he showed up and that was before he went back and lived through the trauma of losing his whole group. Now that he has experienced that he may operate with his mental/emotional walls up all the time but still is able to truly respond when he sees that need in Christina.

'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Fighting Temptation - Jan 9, 2009
While Bailey struggles with a new doctor, the rift between Cristina and Meredith grows wider, and Izzie is torn between alive Alex and dead Denny
It's been more than a month since we had a new Grey's Anatomy, (almost) long enough to forget the bad taste it'd left in my mouth last fall, what with all the resurrected-Denny, new-doctor-paloooza, interns-operating-on-each-other nonsense. I gorged on holiday meals, I drank (lots of) New Year's champagne, and I came back resolved to give Grey's another chance. I wanted it to be good. I wanted it to be great, like second- and third-season great. But I'd settle for good.

I watched Mer and Der canoodling in their cocoon of blankets at the beginning, and I felt warm and cozy. Good. I saw the paramedics bring in Eric Stoltz as a death row prisoner who'd been stabbed. Cool — we could use a kickass medical case............cont’d

On ‘Grey's Anatomy,’ not all wishes come true - Jan. 8, 2009
But the Chief finally realized that Seattle Grace is one nutty place
You mean this isn't how a normal hospital operates?: The Chief finally realized that the reason his hospital fell to #12 in national rankings is because it's one big petri dish of crazy. Strangely, it took the death of a fellow doctor to make him realize that a constantly revolving door of docs and interns who operate on each other is pretty weird. When doctors who were approached to replace the deceased doc refused to interview at Seattle Grace, the Chief sank into a funk that lasted almost the entire show. He snapped out of it at the end, but it's really not clear why. It's not like the hospital got any saner while he moped..................cont’d

Grey's Anatomy: Wish You Were Here - Jan 9th 2009
(S05E11) "Sexed-up stalkers." - Sloan

I thought Grey's Anatomy had gone far enough with the Izzie/Denny mess - until this episode. Why you ask? Because they introduced a doctor who gets around on Heelys!! Do you have any idea how much I hate Heelys? Nine-year-olds come whipping by on those d.a.m.n things when you're walking around the mall, and as much as you hate to wish bad things upon a 9-year-old, I'm just waiting for the headline "Local Sixth Grader Wearing Heelys Cracks Skull Open in Front of Orange Julius." Oh and that doctor (Dr. Arizona Robbins) that got introduced tonight? She's a pediatric surgeon. Great message to send to the youth of America.
At this point, I've decided to take Webber's approach and not get attached to any new doctors that come through the front doors of Seattle Grace Hospital. No one stays - they all quit! That being said, Dr. Robbins seems like she has a pretty good attitude about things, and I loved how she didn't take any crap from Bailey......there’s more

'Grey's Anatomy': Something for the Pain - Jan 9 2009
Maybe “Grey’s Anatomy” should take a five-week break more often. The beleaguered medical drama returned last night with an episode that, thankfully, wasn’t as painful as a filed-down toothbrush to the spine.

That uncomfortable experience was reserved for the death row inmate, played by occasional “Grey’s” director Eric Stoltz, who was rushed to Seattle Grace after what seemed to be one heckuva prison fight. Considering some of the series’ recent soapy turns, I admit I worried that the serial killer, who’s only a week away from execution, would decide he had nothing to lose, wriggle out of his cuffs and set off on some mad hospital rampage. But so far, the storyline, which continues in the next two episodes, seems more interested in addressing a sticky moral and ethical dilemma: How much good should be done to help such a bad guy? Cool. That works. Especially because it further complicates one of “Grey’s” richest, most fully realized relationships — that between BFF’s Meredith and Cristina — in a believable, interesting way.

Tension’s been building between these two for some time, what with Cristina not being able to fully get behind Mer’s reunion with Der, and Meredith failing to stand up for her friend to the Chief after the whole Fight-Club interns debacle. Now, they find themselves on opposite sides of the ethics debate, acting all “silent ragey.” They’re both clearly hurting without the other, and it kinda hurts to watch — precisely because sometimes really hard, messy stuff happens and there just aren’t any quick fixes, even with your "person.".......more

"Wish You Were Here" - Jan 9, 2009

On this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy, a death row inmate checks in and further fuels the rift between Meredith and Cristina, Callie and Mark join a special support group, and Izzie finally tells Alex about her not so innocent encounters with Denny.

When William (Eric Stoltz) arrived at Seattle Grace, it quickly became apparent who among the staff wasn't happy to have a death row inmate in their hospital. While Meredith took a more empathetic approach to the patient by offering him more morphine to ease his pain when others wouldn't, Cristina and Derek were more steadfast about doing things by the book.

I have to admit, even I felt a bit sorry for William as he lay there on the gurney with a foreign object piercing his spine. Though I never expected to hear that his crime was slitting women's throats for fun. Needless to say, my sympathy for his pain quickly dissipated. However, William's presence this week also uncovered a new story from Derek's past that helped explain his immediate dislike for the prisoner. As it turns out, two guys once shot Derek's father to death because he wouldn't give them his watch, which had been a gift from Derek's mom. After sharing this news with Meredith, Derek poignantly said, "We are supposed to treat everyone the same, but we're not all the same."........more

Postby Leliforever on Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:35 am

I watched the episode last might on my new ipod touch (I love my present and my dad! )

I really liked it...I really did...
a)The medical cases were really good although I don't like the death raw patient...He is scary and especially now that I know what he has done! :O :O
b)The woman with the tumor was awesome "Come on!"...  I really laughed at her scenes!  .
c)And the little boy was so,so,so cute...I was so depressed when we learned that he 's probably going to die  I hope the PDT helps somehow (let him do sth good once!)

As for our charecters...
1)It was Izzie's birthday ,not Mer's...The whole Denny thing is getting old and disgusting! ¬¬ ¬¬ I hate it...And now Alex knows and has no problem about it...
2)I didn't like Christina in that episode...It's not Mer's fault and they somehow want us to buy that it is Mer's fault their whole argument by putting Sadie make Mer question her honesty? And trust towards Chris?
3)I hope they get back to normal because I don't like seeing Chris being so...selfish
4)I loved Alex! :P Respect to him!!! :P He was so sweet with the little boy...and baking a cake for Izzie!  So cute...
5)I feel sorry for Mer...She was just trying to help and not become ...emotionally envolved with the whole death row thing...unlike Derek! And she was so sad with Christina!
6)My baby was so cute...I almost started crying when he told Mer about his dad!Poor baby! And what he did for Mer to cheer her up!!!
7)But,I have to be honest, the best part about that episode was the one and only MARK SLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :w00t: :w00t: I love his relationship with Callie!!!He was adorable...he was awesome...And he was so in love with Lexie!!!Did you see his sweet little cute face when he said "You're fantastic"...OMG!!!!   I'm so glad that he went to Denver!!!

And the surprise of the episode was the new pediatric surgeon (I love that all the medical words come from Greek! :PP )...when I was the sneak peek I was sure that I was not going to like her because she is Booth's ex-wife and she has kissed David for that!!! :cursing: :cursing: But she was pretty good...And I loved the skate thing..or whatever that was! :D
So,in coclusion,I;'ll give a 8/10 (considering season 5 only-not previous seasons!)...

Now all we have to do is wait for the McMAma!!!!

P.S.I have a feeling that we got prenty Merder in this episode...maybe because they worked on the same case...And their scene waking up together!!!!!     Best Merder scene in season 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When something begins, you generally have no idea how it's going to end...

My main interests in the show now are Cristina/Owen and the Cristina/Meredith fight. Neither very satisfactorily dealt with in this ep. I'm sure Owen will come around because this is a good and interesting couple and Cristina was so screwed by Burke, that I'm pretty sure sr won't let that happen again. The fight. I liked Sadie's question--did Meredith apologize like she meant it? And for the right things? As a parent who has to make kids apologize to each other, let me tell you, a good apology is hard to give and get. They need to talk this issue out because they're both culpable, though, for letting this whole thing drag out. This show is going to make me hate Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and that's too bad, really.

Hi there sdcsi, :)
\
My question is, why does Meredith have to apologize? The way I understand what happened between M/C, Cristina was clearly in the wrong...sr is making this whole thing like this is all Mer's fault, did I miss something.

My question is, why does Meredith have to apologize? The way I understand what happened between M/C, Cristina was clearly in the wrong...sr is making this whole thing like this is all Mer's fault, did I miss something.

Well, I'm just going by what sr seems to want. ;) It does seem Meredith owes Cristina an apology since she basically abandoned her in the Chief's office. I guess she should have stood up for Cristina, not that she needed to take any blame, necessarily. I know she did apologize, but I have no recollection of the specifics of it, unfortunately, so I don't remember if it really was sincere or just one of those, "I'm sorry this happened to you" things that aren't really apologies at all.

Donna, I don't see any reason for Mer to apologize either. She did once. I think Christina owes ALL the residents an apology for not telling them what was going on with the interns and not reporting it. That's not going to happen but I think it's the right thing. If Chris wanted the others to be responsible then she should have shared the knowledge THEN everyone would have been responsible for what they decided to do with that knowledge.

It's bull, IMO, that Chris expected Mer to be blindsided like that and then expected her to LIE about. It was a gut reaction and was the truth. If Mer had a clue about the intern stuff going on then she would have had Christina's back right or wrong. Mer would have been loyal if she'd just known. I think Chris owes Mer an apology for the way she fought. Chris fought dirty and is constantly acting like Mer is the ONLY ONE who has slept with an attending. What does she think she was doing with BURKE?

Mer figured out what Chris was doing in Tremorgate and didn't say anything out of loyalty. That was having her friends back and Chris forgets that.

They both could just admit I'm sorry this happened and move one. Of course, this is sr la-la-land so that won't happen and Mer will somehow be the only one at fault.
